This is one of our most favorite pictures from the day. This is at the mall that we spoke about in an earlier post, Cable (KAH-BLAY) Plaza. We enjoyed Pollo Frito at a place called Frisby’s then headed up the escaladores, which btw we could have ridden all day up and down cause when we walked into the plaza off the taxi all the kids faces lit up with pure joy, then when we approached the first escaladore there was quite the anticipation as to what this contraption actually did. Quickly they were standing on the escalator and giggling the whole way up, with Jeison’s infectious laugh the other two also giggled wildly. They were all like little kids in a candy store with the free escalator. After we ate and we headed up to the playground/arcade room in the top floor of the building where they played in the jungle gym slide, climbing, den of balls thingy for a good 30mins (thanks to the generous 20something guys working the playground plus we were the only people there, since it was at 1pm and everyone else was at home for their almuerzo (lunch) oh yeah everyone (except bus drivers, taxi cab drivers, some retailers and restaurants) goes home at 12 noon and back to work at 2pm, including ALL school children go home for lunch, after a large almuerzo y siesta, so for those doubters, siestas in South American culture do really exist, and I think we should incorporate them into the American culture, just a thought.
Anyway, we had our first supermarket shopping experience with 3 kids, needless to say that they wanted just about everything, but with some firm no’s and reassuring them that we had it under control they had a good time and so did we.
As soon as Jeison saw the shopping cart his face looked like that in the picture and immediately threw his arms up to sit in the seat, he did very well there, while Ana rode inside the cart surrounded by water, pan (bread) and jugo (juice). Our taxi ride home was rather uneventful say for the motorcyclyst that our driver almost hit..wait everyone almost hits motorcylces here, they convert a tiny crowded 2 lane one way road into a 4 lane motor cycle byway passing mirrors with literaly a centimeter to spare. Oh when they add the sidewalk in it becomes a regular 5 lane super highway (remember all on 2 lanes with curbs on both sides that would cripple the most capable american off road vehicle, with a ground shattering height of nearly a foot, kind of like foot high cement wheel grinders here. Any way our drivers have all been nice and the fares are very respectable at $2000-$5000 (yes thats peso’s not dollars)
Well as you can tell we think the kids are adjusting well, mami y papi get very little sleep but all is well when you don’t have to go to work in the morning, at least not the "regular" work. Work to be done here includes the ever popular bath to see who turns into a prune first party. They love the bath time and at 7am in the morning I don’t understand the enthusiasm. But the good thing is, they fall asleep at night by 7:30-7:45pm, thanks to the wonderful foster moms. yippeee..more time with Megan. Anyway thanks for reading my rants and raves….hope you enjoy this as much as I enjoy writing it…we do plan to get out at least once a day and maybe take a little mini trip into coffee country, so hope to have more on that for you soon. Vaya con Dios.
