$500 bargain?

// October 14th, 2008 // Uncategorized

Ok, so I thought I knew about bargain shopping, but I must have it all wrong.  Flipping through the after news entertainment magazine ‘news’ (I think they are pointless celebrity gossip) show.  They were talking about how companies are beginning to sell Christmas items now, 17 days before Halloween.  Then they gave an example of one NY company having a bargain “sale” where ladies lined up for 3 city blocks to wait for their opportunity to “bargain” shop.

What struck me as odd, admisdt the reporting on people wanting to save money early because of the ‘economic’ crisis that we’re in, is that they interviewed a lady who was ecstatic that she had a brand new, designer purse.  This was no ordinary purse, it has a street value of $2500.  WHAT?  Who is experiencing an economic ‘crisis’ and considers a $2500 carry-all (purse)?

Oh but wait, she got it for the bargain basement price of $500!  FIVE HUNDRED ONE DOLLAR BILLS.  Since, when was that true American bargain shopping.  What a crock.  They should have at least interviewed someone who got a REAL deal, like supermoms all over the world, not buying $500 purses, but trying to buy $500 worth of monthly groceries for a family of 5 or 6 with 3 growing teenage boys.  NOW that would be a true bargain, and something worth reporting.
What do you think?

    Yeah, that’s crazy! Seriously, especially with the economy the way it is, they should be doing more reporting on us “coupon moms” to help people save more money! (Psst….I’m supposed to be in our paper today….) :-)
